At just 11 years old, Mason Griffiths has already made an impression in the football world. His journey began at the grassroots level, where he honed his skills before progressing to district football and gaining valuable academy experience. Always eager to push himself to the next level, Mason attended UK Football Trials with the hope of showcasing his talent in front of professional scouts—and his efforts paid off.

Following his trial, Mason was scouted by Colchester United, an exciting opportunity that set the stage for the next phase of his development. The club wasted no time in reaching out, and soon, arrangements were made for an eight-week trial. This period would be a true test of Mason’s ability, as he trained three times a week and competed in matches against top-level academy players. 

The experience was intense but incredibly rewarding. Mason embraced every challenge, showing his technical ability, work rate, and determination to improve. His performances caught the attention of Colchester’s coaching staff, and at the end of the eight weeks, they extended an invitation for him to stay on for an additional four-week trial. This was a testament to Mason’s talent and the impact he had made at the club. 

However, after careful consideration, Mason and his family decided that the travel distance to Colchester was too demanding for long-term commitment. Despite this, Mason looks back on his time at the club with pride and gratitude. “I thoroughly enjoyed the trial and would love the chance at another club,” he said, highlighting his positive outlook and continued ambition. 

Mason credits UK Football Trials for providing the platform that led to this opportunity. “UK Football Trials gave us the exposure we needed and helped me get a trial, which was an amazing experience. Hopefully, another opportunity will come in the future.” 

One of Mason’s standout moments from the trial process was the chance to showcase his skills in front of professional scouts. “That’s why I came to UK Football Trials—to be seen by multiple clubs at once,” he explains. It’s a strategy that has already paid off, as UK Football Trials has helped him secure trials with two different clubs so far. 

While his journey with Colchester United may not have continued beyond the trial, Mason remains focused and determined. His performances have already proven that he belongs at a high level, and with his dedication to the game, it’s only a matter of time before another opportunity presents itself. 

When asked if he would recommend UK Football Trials to other aspiring players, Mason didn’t hesitate. “Absolutely. It gives you a real chance to be spotted, and it’s an incredible experience.” 

With his skill set, mindset, and the experience he has gained, Mason’s football journey is far from over. His next opportunity is just around the corner, and when it comes, he will be ready to seize it.
