Oliver Szusin is the kind of player who embodies the spirit of relentless dedication and love for the game. At just 13 years old, he’s been playing football since the age of five. Over the years, he has developed into a confident, skilful right winger known for being equally strong on both feet, making him a nightmare for defenders on either flank. 

His family describes football as more than just a hobby—it’s his passion and his way of life. “I just love everything about football,” says Oliver. “From training to matches to even watching football—it’s what I want to do all the time.” He trains five times a week, often with one or two matches at weekends, showing a level of commitment that would impress any coach. His personal motto? “Work hard, determination all the time.” It’s this mindset that’s seen him push through setbacks and keep chasing the dream. 

Like many ambitious young players, Oliver has faced the highs and lows of the trial process. He was recently on trial at Luton Town but didn’t secure a place. Rather than being discouraged, he treated it as a learning experience, returning to training with even greater focus. 

That attitude paid off at UK Football Trials. Oliver had already attended twice before, so he knew what to expect. “This was our third time going,” explains his family. “We’ve loved all three of them. The sessions are so well run and give you a chance to see exactly where you stand compared to other players.” 

During his latest UK Football Trial, Oliver impressed enough to catch the eye of scouts from both Arsenal and Stevenage. “It was very professionally organised,” he says of the trial day. “You have to give 100% all the time, especially when you know there are scouts watching everything you do.” 

UK Football Trials confirmed to him that he had been scouted, and that’s when things got exciting. Stevenage contacted us through email to invite Oliver for a pre-trial, which he’s currently attending. “It’s about 3–4 weeks for the first stage,” says Oliver. “If they like me, it will become a 6–8 week trial. I’m giving everything to make that happen.” 

As for Arsenal, there’s no news yet, but the fact they noticed him is already a huge achievement—and a sign of his potential. Oliver and his family are waiting to see if anything further develops with the North London giants. 

He credits UK Football Trials for providing the crucial platform that led to these opportunities. “It’s honestly the best event ever to show your ability,” he says when asked if he’d recommend it to other players. “You know there will be real scouts there. You get the chance to play in front of them and prove what you can do.” 

Oliver also says he learned valuable lessons from his trial experience: “The big thing is playing under pressure, knowing scouts are watching. You have to be able to handle that and still play your game.” He also loved the chance to see how he compared with other talented players his age from across the country: “It was good to see where we’re standing.” 

At the moment, he’s focusing on making the most of his chance at Stevenage, where the pre-trial period is a test of his consistency, work rate, and ability to fit into a professional environment. It’s a nervous but exciting time for Oliver and his family as they wait to see if he will progress to the full academy trial phase. 

In the meantime, there’s no doubt he’ll continue to train hard, play with passion, and stay true to his motto of work hard, determination all the time. With his talent, attitude, and the experience gained from UK Football Trials, Oliver Szusin’s journey is just beginning—and there’s every reason to believe he’ll go far.
