Ousman Mbye – 13 Years Old Trial for Rotherham

Ousman Mbye – 13 Years Old Trial for Rotherham

At just 13 years old, Ousman Mbye is already showing the kind of promise that has caught the eye of multiple professional clubs – and all signs suggest his football journey is just getting started.

The dynamic left winger, known for his pace and creativity on the ball, first discovered his love for the game at just 7 years old, playing Sunday league football. It wasn’t long before his natural flair began to turn heads, and Ousman progressed to the more competitive environment of JPL (Junior Premier League) football – a crucial stepping stone in the development pathway for aspiring academy players.

It was during this time that he was first scouted by Leeds United and Rotherham. Leeds offered Ousman a trial, which didn’t lead to a signing – but the experience didn’t knock his confidence. Instead, it sharpened his motivation to improve and get another shot. That second chance came through UK Football Trials, where Ousman had already been scouted once before. Encouraged by the opportunity to be seen again by multiple scouts in one setting, he returned with even more determination.

This time, Ousman’s performance really made an impact. His explosive runs down the wing, intelligent movement and sharp decision-making caught the attention of four clubs: Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, and Bradford City – all expressing interest after watching him in action.

“The best part of the trial was the end matches,” Ousman says. “That’s where I really got to show what I can do and express myself with the ball.”

Those matches are the most competitive part of the UK Football Trials format – full 11-a-side games that allow players to put all their skills into practice in front of watching scouts. For Ousman, they were the perfect stage to shine.

He credits the trial for teaching him exactly what scouts are looking for, a vital insight that helped him play with more purpose and confidence. “I’ve learned to focus on the small things – movement off the ball, work rate, and staying switched on throughout the session.”

Since being told he was scouted, Ousman is eagerly awaiting more information from the clubs who showed interest. “I’m just really excited to see what happens next,” he says. “I know trials with these clubs are a big opportunity, and I want to give everything I’ve got.”

When asked what made him return to UK Football Trials, his answer is simple: “I got scouted the first time. I knew I had to come back to give myself the best chance to take the next step in my career.”

He’s quick to recommend UK Football Trials to other players too. “It’s a proper opportunity to get seen. If you want to take that next step in your football career, this is the place to do it.”

With four clubs now monitoring his progress and a trial opportunity on the horizon, Ousman Mbye is proof that resilience, hard work and the right platform can open doors – and the next chapter of his football journey looks very bright indeed.
