Finlay’s football story began in the Warrington leagues, where he played throughout his early years before also experiencing spells in the Liverpool league. Competing across different environments helped shape his versatility — whether playing as a striker or winger — and built the foundations that have led to his recent success. 

Having attended UK Football Trials several times over the years, Finlay and his family have always valued the set-up, the professionalism of the coaching, and the competitive environment. “Been before over the years — great set up,” they said. These events have allowed him to test himself, develop confidence, and showcase his ability in front of scouts. 

His most recent attendance proved decisive. After another strong performance at the trial, Finlay was contacted and invited to Altrincham for a session and a match. The club staff made him feel welcome from the moment he arrived, and the standard of training immediately impressed him. “It went really well. Great set up and made to feel at home,” his family explained. 

Altrincham’s coaches were equally impressed by what they saw. Finlay’s confidence, pace, and attacking threat stood out once again — much like his performance at the UK Football Trials event where he scored two goals, including a memorable 25-yard strike into the top corner, which he proudly described as a “Phil Foden goal.” That moment showcased his ability to produce quality in key situations and has become a highlight of his recent achievements. 

Following the session and match at Altrincham, the club made their decision quickly. They signed Finlay for the season, recognising both his current level and his potential for further development. For Finlay, it is another exciting step forward: new teammates, new challenges, and another professional environment in which he can thrive. 

The family confirmed: “Yes, they have signed Finlay up for the year.” 

Reflecting on UK Football Trials, Finlay’s family remain enthusiastic advocates. “Yes. It’s a great day out and training programme regardless of whatever outcome happens. Great experience on the day and lots of fun.” That blend of opportunity, high-level coaching, and exposure played an important part in getting Finlay noticed once again and helping him reach this next stage. 

With his signing confirmed and Altrincham now supporting his development, Finlay is focused and ready for the season ahead. His journey highlights exactly what can happen when preparation meets opportunity — and he continues to show that he has the talent and mindset to keep pushing forward.
