Jordan Kabongo - Aged 14 - Training & Trial Matches with Bury FC
A Belgian playmaker will be featuring in a match against Blackburn Rovers tonight and could sign a contract in the next seven days.
Jordan Kabongo, 14, attended our trial in Manchester last October and impressed the coach taking his session, who is a Lead Academy Coach at Manchester City.
The powerful number 10, who towered over the other players in his group at 6 foot 3', received one of the best scorecards a coach has ever given out, receiving 4 A’s out of a possible 10 – his lowest grade was a B.
Following the trial, Jordan spent several weeks training with Manchester City, before spells at Accrington Stanley and now more recently, Bury.
The coach who first spotted him at our trial last year explained, “Jordan came in with us and Man City for a while and did really well, but we felt he just want quite ready for us to sign him yet.
He added, “We decided the best thing for him would be to go and sign for a lower league club, somewhere he could be one of the best players and express himself, and we will keep an eye on his development.”
Academy staff at Man City then referred him to Bury and Accrington Stanley – the latter had also seen him play at our trials in October.
Within weeks Jordan had been offered to sign with Accrington, but with distance an issue, his family decided to give Bury a shot before committing to anything and he hasn’t looked back since.
Jordan’s Uncle, Francois, attended the UK Football Trial with him and gave us an update on his progress at Bury.
“He has been there for two weeks now and is really enjoying it,” said Francois.
“There is a match tonight against Blackburn u15’s and another this weekend and they have told us we will be talking about signing within the next week.”
Francois went on, “The club is great, he in enjoying the training and playing in a pro environment regularly.”
The talented youngster flew over from Belgium especially to take part in our trial last year and flew home straight after.
Francois added, “The UK Football Trial was great, a really good opportunity for him and a fantastic service.
“To hear that a club is interested is like music to your ears – some players take 4 or 5 trials to get scouted so to hear this on the first time was incredible.”
The Manchester City Academy Coach said about Jordan, “He is one of the best players I’ve coached in 4 years of working with UK Football Trials and he got one of the best scorecards I’ve ever given out.
“He did well when he came in with us and we will continue to monitor his progress with Bury.”
