Freddie Cannon - aged 11 - Offers and Trials at Colchester United, Reading & Crystal Palace

11-year-old Freddie Cannon has been offered a two-year deal with Colchester United and is also set for trials with Reading and Crystal Palace.

Freddie, who attended our UK Football Trial event in West London last month, attracted the attention of several scouts and has a staggering 9 clubs chasing his signature.

However it was Colchester United of League Two that made the first move and offered the promising midfielder a two-year-deal at their Talent ID Centre.

The Colchester scout who first spotted him at our trial described Freddie as “a confident player with a big presence.”

He said: “Freddie is a very small player however when he plays there is a big presence.

“He is confident and he believes in himself – with a great technical ability, creative flair and a football brain; he stood out playing against players three years older than him and those are the things we look for when bringing a boy into our club.”

In fact the club were so impressed with Freddie on the day that they made an offer to the player without needing to see him again, however it remains to be seen where Freddie will be playing his football next season.

Freddie is set to leave Barnet FC later this week after three years at the club and is not short of options for next season.

The highly coveted youngster who can play in midfield, on the wing or at fullback, is also set to undergo trials with Crystal Palace and Reading FC in July.

His mum, Angie, said: “It’s great for Freddie to have so many options at this stage. Colchester have offered him a place at the talent ID centre and that’s a good option and we’re grateful for the interest.

“He’ll be attending a trial day with Reading at the Madjeski Stadium on the 29th July and has been invited to go in with Crystal Palace before that, so we will see what happens over the next couple of months.

“But he loved the UK Football Trial that he came to and I thought it was really good as well, there was lots of communication frim the staff and I would really recommend it.”

Everyone at UK Football Trials would like to congratulate Freddie on the offer of a contract and wish him well for his trials.
