Michael O'Regan - Aged 15 - Trials with Derby County & Stoke City
Four clubs are interested in securing the services of stylish defender Michael O’Regan after a series of impressive performances at our trials last week.
Michael, 15, came to our July events in Manchester and Birmingham and caused quite a stir amongst the on looking scouts.
The centre-back, who could be likened to John Stones given his calm style of play and ability on the ball, has already had a trial with one club since last week and has been contacted by three others.
Within four days of his first trial Michael was stepping out to play for Derby County at the academy – he helped keep a clean sheet in a 6-0 win against Port Vale – one of the other interested clubs who had already made contact.
The commanding performance led to an invitation to train with the club again next Monday, while Premier League mainstays Stoke City have also thrown their name into the mix by inviting Michael in for a training session later this month.
The final option comes in the form of Sheffield United, who have made contact with the family and made their interest known should the player want to explore other options.
Michael’s Dad, also named Michael, said: “This is his first time actually being anywhere and playing in a professional environment, but he’s just taking it as it comes and will see what options he’s got at the end of it.
“He played well in the game and Derby have invited him back in for a training session which is good news as he liked the club – they made him feel welcome and he really enjoyed it.”
Michael also attended our trials in June earlier this year and again was the subject f considerable interest, with another Premier League side again making contact with the player’s family.
It’s clear that Michael undoubtedly has potential and clubs seem to be lining up to take him in, and one scout revealed exactly what is was that made his tick that box next to Michael’s name.
“He’s got the raw ability that a lot of people look for, there’s something there that we can work with and coach,” said the scout.
“Michael is a calm defender who is happy stepping out with the ball at his feet and can pick a pass as well as defend well.
“Obviously there are things that need to be improved but he’s only 15 so there’s enough time to work on those things and hopefully he’ll make a fantastic player.”
Michael will also be attending our 5 Day Training and Trials Camp in August, where he will have the opportunity to develop his game further and play in front of even more scouts.
Speaking about the UK Football Trials he attended, Michael said: “It’s a brilliant stage for you to perform, it’s up to the players on they day and they’ve got no excuses really.
“We decided to take the punt and for us it’s been money well spent.”
We’re wishing Michael all the best with his trials over the next few weeks and look forward to working with him again at our camp – we will bring you updates on his future over the coming months.
