Premier League hopefuls Wolverhampton Wanderers have had 14-year-old centre-back Ezray Lama Omba on trial at the club’s academy.

The teenage defender, who was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and moved to England as a child, was scouted in December at our West London trial.

He was invited for a trial with his two friends who also attended the same event, and has spent the last six weeks training and playing for the academy.

In recent weeks he has featured in several u15 matches, including a debut goal against Leyton Orient.

“Ezray appears to take his football very seriously,” said the Wolves scout who arranged the trial.

“His best attributes are his distribution and his dribbling, for a centre-back he has great feet and can step into midfield comfortably.

“We were actually looking for someone in his position, someone who could play defence or midfield, so he was perfect for us when we found him at UK Football Trials.”

This opportunity represents the first taste of the professional football environment for Ezray, who had been playing grassroots football until his frustration with his side led him to UK Football Trials.

His guardian, Alex, explained: “Last December he was a bit upset with his current club and wanted to see what else was out there, so I brought him to UK Football Trials and thankfully he was picked up.

“His first training session with Wolves lasted for about two-and-a-half hours up at the academy and he loved it, he said he didn’t want to leave, but it was a much higher standard than he’s used to since he’s come from a grassroots background.”

After around six-weeks at the club, Wolves have unfortunately decided not to offer Ezray a place at the academy and he will be returning to our trials in April in the hope of finding more opportunities.
