Callum Law, 16, is currently on trial with Portsmouth Football Club after he was scouted at our October events.

We first saw Callum, who plays in goal, at our June trials in West London, and despite initially receiving no interest from scouts, Callum returned later in the year and made the most of his second chance.

When we spoke to Callum a few weeks after his trial, he revealed where his career had taken him since coming to UK Football Trials.

“Well the first bit of interest was from Sheffield United,” Callum explained.

“They spoke to me on the day at UK Football Trials and then called my dad a week after, but I was too old for their scholar programme so we had to leave that.

“But then we heard from Portsmouth and I went in for a trial at the end of October.

“We did a training session for about an hour and a half, had a bit of a chat inside with the coaches about what we were working on, and then played in an 11v11 game with the other academy players.”

Callum added: “It went really well, I made a couple of big saves.

“The standard and intensity was very high, the facilities are really nice and the staff and players were friendly.

“They said they really liked me and want to see me again.”

Portsmouth followed up on their promise and have invited Callum back for more sessions later this month.

It’s been quite the rise for Callum, who was playing as an outfield player until the beginning of last season, starting as a striker before moving to right back, and then eventually pulling on the gloves.

“I’m still learning the position to be honest, there are still things for me to improve on,” said Callum.

“I’ve never been to any trials before I went to the one at UK Football Trials – it’s such a great platform and that’s what made me want to come back, there are so many scouts there.”

Callum continues to train with Portsmouth, as well as Bishop’s Stortford u18’s, while other clubs including Bournemouth and Charlton and monitoring his situation.
