John Oluleye is on a six-week-trial with Sheffield United after they scouted him from our trial at Hyde United.
The 14-year-old winger attended two of our events in 2018, in the summer and then again in August and he was scouted both times.
At the first trial it was Bury who showed an interest and subsequently invited him in to the academy, where he spent some time on trial.
In October it was the Head of Academy Recruitment at Sheffield United who was impressed with John and soon set up another trial.
“It’s really good, the standard is so high compared to grass roots and it’s a big step up,” said John, who is five weeks into his trial.
He has taken to life with the development side well and played a vital role when he registered an assist in a recent 6-4 win.
A further sign of the progress he’s making is evidenced in the fact that John has recently been moved up to the u16’s, rather than the u14’s where he had been playing.
“He trains there every Tuesday and is enjoying himself,” said his mum, Dorcas.
She added: “He’s doing well and is benefiting from the good standard of coaching he is receiving.”
Other than his trial with Bury in the summer, John has never had any experience playing or training with a pro club, so this is a new experience for him but one that he has grasped.
John will finish his trial with Sheffield United after Christmas and we wish him all the best with the decision.
