Goalkeeper Matthew Garrett played in a trial game for semi-pro Lancaster City following an impressive performance at our trial.
Matt, 16, was present at our event in October and was scouted after putting in a fine display in both the training and the match.
“Lancaster got in touch and wanted him to come in for a friendly but we weren’t able to make that one unfortunately,” explained Matt’s dad.
“But we went down on the Monday and he played the last 20 minutes in another friendly, keeping a clean sheet in that time.
“All of a sudden he went from playing with players his own age to playing with men, which is totally different and the pace of the game was really fast compared to what he’s used to.
“But he had a really good night, he kicked well and didn’t concede any goals.”
This kind of test is a new experience for Matt, whose trial with us was his first of any kind.
Matt’s dad continued: “The UK Football Trials platform was really good, he enjoyed it and we’re going to come back to another one in December.
“We’re not sure on the final decision yet from Lancaster City, after the game they patted him on the back and said ‘see you soon’, but we’ll see what happens.
“He’s well happy and was really chuffed with the whole experience.”
