Ciaran Martin - Aged 11 - Trial for Watford FC
11-year-old central midfielder Ciaran Martin was scouted at our December trials by Premier League club Watford.
The event held in West London was the first trial Ciaran had attended since an unsuccessful stint with Brentford when he was six years old, but he wasted no time in impressing the scouts and securing an invitation to train with Watford.
Talking to Ciaran’s mother Fiona, she explained: “That was the first trial I’d put him through and I didn’t know how he was going to get spotted, other than me trying this sort of thing, and then he was scouted by Watford."
After receiving the news that he had been scouted by Watford, Ciaran was invited to attend a further trial with the Premier League outfit at the training ground.
"We went off to Watford on the Sunday morning and he had his trial but was unfortunately unsuccessful. But that’s fine, he was quite okay with it as he had the experience of doing it and seeing what it was like.”
Fiona revealed that Ciaran enjoyed the trial experience and thrives when being constantly be pushed and challenged.
Ciaran has shown great resilience, continuing to train three times a week on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and even returning to our February trials, hoping to use his previous experiences to his advantage and be scouted once again.
We would like to wish Ciaran the best of luck for the rest of the season with his local grass roots club Concord Rangers.
