Kian McCarron - Aged 11 - Trial for Bury
Whilst attending one of our trials in Manchester back in October 2018, 11 year old right winger Kian McCarron caught the eye of a number of scouts.
When talking to his mum about Kian’s footballing background, she told us: “Kian currently plays for a grass roots team called Crossfield in Warrington. He used to play for another club but that was again just grass roots. He’s never had trials anywhere else before coming to yours. We found your company after just a general search online and it showed that you were holding an event in our area.”
Kian was in impressive form whilst at our trial, being contacted by three different clubs who were interested, one of them, League Two club Bury.
Kian’s mother said: “We received an email from UK Football Trials saying that Kian had been scouted by three clubs in total. Just after this, Bury also sent an email asking him to come down for a trial.”
When Kian went to Bury, they were keen to see what he could offer. His mum stated: “Kian absolutely loved the trial at Bury, he really enjoyed it. He was attending training with them twice a week for about five or six weeks.”
She then went into a bit more detail about what a trial with Bury entails. “Bury decided to just see how he got on in training and let him play games for his local team," she said.
"So he trained with Bury on a Monday and Thursday, going through drills and things like that and then played for his local team on a weekend.”
Unfortunately for Kian, Bury didn’t opt to pursue him further after his six week trial, although they will continue to monitor him.
“Even though they said that he isn’t quite at the level required, it gave him an idea of what level he needs to be and what he needs to do to improve and get there, like different ways of passing, stuff that he wouldn’t be taught at his local club," his mum said.
"So yeah, even though he didn’t sign with them, it was really beneficial for him and like I said, he loved it.”
During his time at Bury, Kian not only got to experience top class coaching and training but great facilities too.
“Kian was really impressed with the facilities at Bury, the pitches were amazing and the balls were better than what he was used to playing with. He loved the coaches as well, they were always helping and giving him advice, they really knew what they were doing. Our overall experience with Bury was brilliant, they were great.”
When asked how it was all left and what Kian had in mind for the future his mum stated: “We’re not sure what Kian’s next steps are just yet. Like I said before, Bury don’t think he’s quite at the level needed just yet, so they’re just going to keep popping down and keeping an eye on him whilst he’s playing for his local team.”
Everyone at UK Football Trials would like to wish Kian the best of luck in the future and hope he can excel at his current club Crossfield.
