Jon Ander Vilar Robinson - Aged 13 - Trial for Burnley
Goalkeeping prospect Jon Ander Vilar Robinson, 13, has attracted attention from a number of clubs including Premier League side Burnley after attending one of our Manchester trials in December.
We caught up with Jon’s father Javier and asked about his son’s footballing background, he explained: “He did very well last season playing in goal for his grass roots team, they got to the final of the cup and he was awarded man of the match.
“From this he was scouted by Liverpool and Manchester City, where Liverpool placed him in a City Select team and Manchester City are still monitoring him.”
Despite this interest from other clubs, Jon still pushed to attend trials in order to gain more exposure in the football industry, opting to book a place at our event in Manchester. Jon’s father said: “We attended your December trial in Stockport where there was a scout from Burnley. He contacted us, along with another four scouts from different clubs to offer Jon the opportunity to try for a place in their team. From these four we agreed to attend trials with three of the them.”
After agreeing to attend with the Premier League side, Javier explained what Jon’s trial consisted of at Burnley stating: “He played with a select team, a pre-academy club. He’s been there for about six to eight weeks. From there he’s been invited to come and train with the academy. He attended his first training session and after they offered him to attend a further three so they can continue with monitoring him.”
Impressed by the quality of the other players at Burnley, Javier explained that this only motivates Jon, saying: “The level of the players is very good. From pre-academy through to his current team.
“There’s quite a range of ages in both teams. At the pre-academy he was one of the oldest there, whereas at the academy he is one of the youngest which he much prefers as it is more challenging for him which helps him improve.”
As well as the players, both have also been impressed by both the staff and facilities stating: “The level of coaching at Burnley has been fantastic. The coach that Jon had at the academy was absolutely great.
The facilities are also brilliant. It’s all state of the art, its only about a year and a half old. We’ve also been to Manchester City which is probably the best I have experienced but Burnley’s is to a very close standard.”
When asked what Jon’s next steps are, Javier told us: “After another couple of trials, we should find out whether we move forward with Burnley or not. They really have been great so I hope that it lasts and Jon can continue to play football here. I personally wasn’t expecting it to be this good but it has really been fantastic.”
We would like to wish Jon the best of luck with his future at Burnley and hope he continue to impress and officially move into the academy and sign for the club.
