16-year-old goalkeeper Michael Statham has signed for Nottingham Forest, almost two years after first attending one of our trials.

We reported on Michael’s success back in July 2017 where he attracted attention from five professional clubs who subsequently offered him trials whilst at one of our events.

When talking to Michael he said: “I was scouted by about 5 teams at one of your trials. I was signed by Bury F.C with a verbal offer of a scholarship. I didn't really settle at the club due to some personal reasons.” 

Because of this, Michael opted to pursue other avenues stating: “I then attended the EFL trials in Hull a few months later. There was a lot of interest from scouts who had seen me at your trials. 

“I received 5 or 6 trial offers from different clubs such as Preston, Birmingham, Southampton, Fleetwood and Crewe to name a few. I went along to Nottingham Forest and they offered me a scholarship after seeing me in just 2 trial games. I love it!”

Although UK Football Trials didn’t directly place Michael into Nottingham Forest, he believes it would not have been possible without the help of both our trials and previous success story.

“I don't think there would have been as much interest at the EFL trial if the scouts from your trials hadn't recognised me as there were at least 30 other keepers. I just want to thank you all for your help in getting me noticed.” He said.
