League One side Portsmouth FC have taken 11-year-old Lenny Stimpson on trial after they scouted him from our training and trial camp in April this year.

Lenny, who plays as a central-midfielder, was invited in to train with the club shortly after leaving our camp.

“He has had three sessions with Portsmouth now and has really enjoyed it,” revealed his mum, Emily.

“They said that they need to see him in a game situation but the training has gone well.”

“So far they’ve mainly been doing drills and a few training matches, and he knows a few of the boys already from previous teams which has helped him settle in. Because of course it can be intimidating joining a new club and everyone is competing for positions, but that’s football.”

Lenny has spent the past three seasons playing for AFC Bournemouth’s shadow squad and is a regular in the starting XI, but views this as the chance to join an academy full time.

Speaking about their experience with UK Football Trials, Emily explained: “We just Googled it to be honest, and it was the best thing we’ve ever done – it was just brilliant.

“It’s given him that bite back and he’s loving his football.”

Lenny will return to Portsmouth in pre-season and expects to have the opportunity to play in some friendlies with a view to joining full-time next season.
