Scouted from our Sheffield event back in February, 14-year-old Roman Khela has signed for Leeds United after being given the chance to train and play matches for the Championship side for six weeks.

Speaking on behalf of her son, Rebecca told us: “Roman’s settled in well at Leeds, they’re a really lovely group of boys and he really enjoys playing with them. It’s like he’s always been there.”

When asked how the news was given to Roman that Leeds wanted to sign him, Rebecca explained: “He had a review meeting where they went through the key points that they look at, both myself and Roman were present with the coaches. They then said they would like him to play for the under 15’s. The next training session we came in and signed all the paperwork.”

With it approaching the end of the season, we were curious what the next steps were for Roman until next season. His mother revealed: “They have one more training session this week and then they get to play at Elland Road next Thursday so it’s a really amazing end to the season for them.”

“They’ve got some trips coming up in the summer and then back in at the start of July for pre-season.” She added.

Roman’s had to adapt whilst at Leeds United, changing positions whilst at the club. His mother told us: “Roman was usually playing as a right winger or upfront but he’s moved around since playing for Leeds. He really likes it and it’s probably something we would have never thought of.”

Rebecca believes that UK Football Trials played a part in Roman signing for Leeds, stating: “I think if you guys hadn’t of put that trial session on in Sheffield Roman probably wouldn’t have gone to one of your other trials that school holiday as it was too difficult to get to. So thank you, without you it wouldn’t of happened.”
