Romehl Seraton - Aged 15 - Trial for Sheffield United
At our Birmingham event back in April, Newly promoted Premier League side Sheffield United scouted right back Romehl Seraton, aged 15.
Romehl currently plays for two clubs at grassroots level, training twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays and playing on both Saturdays and Sundays.
We spoke with Romehl’s mother and asked for a bit of background on his footballing history, she told us: “Romehl was a late starter when it came to football due to health reasons.”
Because of this, he couldn’t do things like other children, such as football and swimming. When he was around 8 or 9-years-old it cleared up and he had this love for football.” She added.
Despite the set backs Romehl faced in the early years of life, he remained determined to play football. His mother told us: “Romehl’s naturally gifted as a footballer. Some people start to play from around 4-years-old, he never kicked a ball in his life as he was unable to and then he just adapted to football and was recognised for his natural ability and since then he’s just progressed.”
Since playing football, Romehl has experienced many successes with his club. However, his individual talent has also been recognised and was the first recipient of the Daniel Sturridge Player of the Season award through his district league!
Romehl’s trial with Sheffield United consisted of him playing in a talent ID game. His mum explained to us what happened: “We arrived at around 6:30pm. Romehl went in, was told what position he will be playing in and then put his kit on and went into a match. Romehl didn’t play in his natural position; usually he plays either central defensive-midfielder or right back for his local clubs but he was played at left back.”
“He didn’t mind as you could put him anywhere on a pitch and he will do his best as football is more than just a game to him. He always wants to learn and progress, he never thinks that he can’t do anything, he will just do it.” She added.
Romehl’s mother believes he performed very well during his time with Sheffield United, saying: “Personally, I don’t think you would have noticed that he was out of position, he looked like he was meant to be there. I think that’s what was coming off to the coaches as well as they kept giving him positive feedback pretty much every time he had the ball.”
Romehl’s mum went on to explain why he is so determined to play football, telling us: “Part of the reason he wants to play football is because he wants to show some young children who might be told they can’t do something because of an illness or whatever, that they can.”
Romehl did in fact play well and make an impression whilst at Sheffield United, with the coaches making contact and asking for him to come back to play matches during pre-season. Everyone at UK Football Trials would like to congratulate Romehl and wish him the best of luck.
