Harry Irving - Aged 16 - Signed for Woking

Woking scouted 16-year-old goalkeeper Harry Irving from our West London event held at QPR’s training ground back in May.

Speaking to Harry about his footballing background, he explained to us: “I’ve been a goalkeeper since I was around 10 or 11. I was playing at my local team when I was younger. Then I got invited to play with Swindon’s development squad. That was for a year but then it stopped as they only go up to under 16.”

After finishing with Swindon, Harry returned to his grassroots club. This is when he discovered our company online and chose to attend our event. When we asked Harry why he chose our trials, he told us: “I saw UK Football Trials on Instagram, I was just scrolling through and saw that you had quite a high success rate of people getting scouted. So I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to show what I can do and have a better opportunity.”

After booking our event and attending, Harry explained what happened from there: “So I attending the trial, a couple of weeks later the scout from Woking got in touch with me saying he would like to see me for another trial.”

Harry then went through his time with Woking, explaining: “So I went down 10am until 1pm. I was working with the Woking first team goalkeeping coach; it was myself and two other keepers. We went through the basics and then we went through more going across goal, high diving saves, making it a bit more technical.”

“I feel like I did really well. The goalkeeper coach and Scott performed well, but I do feel like when you play with better players, it makes you play better yourself.”

Harry really did impress whilst trialling with Woking, with the club making contact later that evening, offering Harry a full-time place in the under 18’s squad!

When asked how he felt about this opportunity, Harry explained: “I’m feeling really good. I feel like it’s a big step up but I think that I’m ready for it.”

Harry believes that his success would not have been as easy to come by without his grassroots coach, stating: “Simon Randlesome, my goalie coach at Keyes really helped me develop during the 2017/18 season which helped me get to this level.”

Everyone here at UK Football Trials would like to congratulate Harry on his amazing success. We hope that he can continue to impress at Woking and hope to see him in the first team in the future.
