Ryan McCann - Aged 15 - Trial for Altrincham
Semi-pro side Altrincham F.C scouted 15-year-old Ryan McCann at our April Manchester event held at Stockport Sport Village.
Ryan played right back at our trial and caught the eye of a scout from the Greater-Manchester side.
We spoke to Ryan’s mum Kim who gave us an insight into him as a player, explaining: “Ryan currently plays under 15’s for a Sunday league team at grassroots level.
“He plays centre-half but can also play right back, so he is quite a defensive player and can definitely put a tackle in.” She added.
We asked Kim to talk us through what happened when they arrived at Altrincham. She explained: “When we got to the trial, the players got changed into separate kits and were given a briefing about what was going to happen.
“They then went into a general warm up, followed by a 90-minute match which Ryan played three quarters of.”
She continued: “Overall I think Ryan did well, it is hard to say as you never quite know what they are looking for. So I’m not sure, all in all I think he did really well.”
When asked about her thoughts on the coaching at Altrincham, Kim told us: “The level of coaching was really good, Ryan was impressed with both the coaching and the talent that was at the trial.
“From what Ryan was told, roughly three players in each team already play for the academy and the rest were on trial. So it meant that he got an idea of the standard of the academy players.” She added.
After observing her son during his trial, Kim told us: “I think that Ryan was definitely to a similar level to the academy players and that level was quite high compared to what he has played previously.”
When asked about the standard of the facilities at Altrincham, Kim explained: “The only thing I can really comment on is the pitch that they trialled on, it was amazing! Apart from that I didn’t see any of the other facilities.”
She went on to say: “Ryan had a great experience with Altrincham, he felt great about the day and was glad to have the opportunity, so all in all it was a great experience for him.
There hasn’t been a result with his trial as of yet, we are expecting an email in the next 10 to 14 days.”
UK Football Trials can confirm that Ryan was indeed invited back to continue to trial with Altrincham He was one of only four players to be invited back during pre-season and has been really impressive in his time there.
We hope he can continue his great form and go on to feature for their first team in the future.
