Imam Baba-Ahmed - Aged 10 - Trial for Reading
Championship side Reading scouted 10-year-old Imam Baba-Ahmed from our West London event held at QPR’s training ground back in May.
We spoke to Imam’s mother and asked for some information on his footballing background, here’s what she had to say: “Imam is a defensive midfielder and is currently playing for his grassroots side Brentham F.C.
“He is also playing in school and since he started has been the best player in both his year, and the year above. For the past two seasons he has been given the player of the season award at his local club Brentham. That is why we decided to bring him along to your event, to give him the chance to see if he can go further with it.”
Imam was initially offered a six week trial with Reading, his mother told us what a trial with Reading consisted of, explaining: “They would train, go through drills, things like that and then play matches. Players were often put into different positions to test their game.”
“The training sessions were both players on trial and from the academy, they were all mixed together. I think that Imam was at the same level as the other players, he has been performing really well.” She added.
She continued: “After Imam’s third session, he got an email saying that things have changed now and there is no need for him to trial for the full six weeks.
“They also said they are going to send another email regarding a match that is coming up, and whether or not Imam will be selected.
“Imam was called up to play for Reading, I went along with him and would say that he performed well, Reading seem to be very impressed with him at the moment.”
Unfortunately for Imam, regardless of how he gets on with Reading, he will not be able to participate in their academy. His mother explained: “If Imam is successful with Reading, he will not be able to play for them as we will be moving him to Cheltenham Prep School for boarding.
“We are just waiting for his trial with Reading to finish and then we are going to try to see if he can play with Cheltenham F.C as he will not be able to travel to back for training.” She added.
UK Football Trials would like to congratulate Imam and regardless of the end result, he should be extremely proud. We would also like to wish him the best of luck at his new school and hope that he will be able to feature with Cheltenham.
