18-year-old forward Tami Ogunnowo attended our Essex event held at Aveley’s ground back in August and was scouted by both West Ham and Welling United!

Talking to the Italian playmaker, he told us about his football background, explaining: “I played in Italy for a pro club last year with the under 23’s, it was my first experience with a pro club and it was amazing.”

“At the end of the season the club went into administration so had to release a lot of players and unfortunately I was one of them so I decided to come back to England.”

“When I came back to the UK I saw your events online and thought it was a great opportunity to be seen by scouts.” He added.

We asked Tami to give us some details on what happened after he attended our event. Here’s what he had to say: “After attending your event I was contacted by both West Ham United and Welling and offered to trial for each club.”

“With West Ham I was offered to play in a talent ID game against their academy.”

“About two weeks after my game with West Ham, I trained with the under 23’s and was then called up to the first team to play in a friendly match.”

“I came on in the second half, played 45 minutes and almost scored. It was a great experience.”

“Unfortunately I’ve actually picked up an injury so I’m no currently training or playing with Welling.”

“I have been in contact with them though to let them know the situation. I’ve not lost contact with them so that’s good.”

When questioned on what his future had in store, Tami told us: “My plan at this moment in time is to go to Spain next month. I have some contacts out there and I’m hoping I can get an opportunity.”

“I also have contacts in Italy so I may head back out there next year.” He added.

Tami also had advice for other players in a similar position to himself: “My advice to other players would be to keep on going as you never know what life has in store for you.”

“I never thought at 18-years-old I would get a trial with West Ham United. They’re in the Premier League, I didn’t ever think that I would be scouted by a Prem team!”
