Jamie Greenaway - Aged 15 - Scouted by Three Clubs

Whilst at our Essex event held at Aveley Football Club’s ground, 15-year-old goalkeeper Jamie Greenaway was scouted by Millwall, Gillingham and Luton Town.

We caught up with Jamie’s father go get more of an understanding of Jamie’s football background, here’s what he told us: “Jamie plays currently for Braintree Town Youth as well as playing for the Colchester Youth development.”

“He plays in one match a week, and so far he’s played against Norwich, Ipswich and a few other development teams. He also does private goalkeeper training on a Monday.”

When asked why Jamie chose to attend our event, we were told: “Apart from his private training on a Monday, he doesn’t get the chance to train with a goalkeeper coach as both Braintree and Colchester don’t have one. So we chose to attend your event as we felt Jamie wasn’t getting the training he needs.”

This wasn’t Jamie’s first event with UK Football Trials, his dad explained: “We actually attended your trial is Essex at the beginning of the year. At that one, Jamie was scouted by three clubs including Tottenham, they told us they were going to monitor him and come along and watch four or five of his games.”

He continued to tell us: “This time around, Jamie was again scouted by three clubs with Millwall keen to offer him a trial and Gillingham an ID game.”

“Millwall bought Jamie in to train with them twice on the Wednesday and Thursday.”

“During his first session he was put through his paces with bleep tests and that sort of thing, then on the Thursday he attended the two-hour training session where he was told they’d like him to come back for potentially a six-week trial as well as some games.”

“Even though Jamie has only attended two sessions so far he is loving it. He’s playing at a level he’s not experienced before and the training is full on and pushing him.”

“He’s training with academy players and another goalkeeper who is on trial. He doesn’t look out of place at all, he’s a very confident person, and he’s really getting on with the other lads as well as the coaches.”

We here at UK Football Trials would like to wish Jamie the best of luck with both his six-week trial with Millwall and his match coming up with Gillingham. We will be keeping track of his progress in the coming weeks and hope he can go on to sign for a pro club.
