Kyle Jacques - Aged 17 - Trial for Solihull Moors
17-year-old Canadian central midfielder Kyle Jacques was scouted by Solihull Moors F.C and invited to trial for the club whilst attending our Birmingham event in October.
When we spoke to Kyle regarding his football history, he explained: “When I was younger I played football in Canada. I then took a step up and went to play in the US for average grassroots American teams.”
“Then I came to the UK to attend one of your events in Plymouth where I was scouted by Leicester City.”
“Unfortunately nothing further came from this as I was living in Canada at this point.”
He continued: “After realising I had potential, my parents opted to send me to the UK to a boarding academy where I studied for the last two years.”
“I then chose to leave after getting into contact with UK Football Schools who placed me into one of the best football schools in the UK.” He added.
We asked Kyle what life is like school. He explained: “At my school we have two-hour training sessions every day as well as playing in matches.”
“On days after our matches we have a rest and recovery day and we also analyse our matches.”
“The teams that we play against are cat 2 teams and the first team play cat 1 teams, its great.”
Moving onto his trial with Solihull, Kyle told us: “I went in for two sessions with Solihull on Monday and Tuesday night. During my first session, we worked the defensive line and basically started off by doing a technical passing drill.”
“Then we were working on the back shape in a game scenario and went the through the motions of doing it during the match at the end.”
“Then during my second session we focused on more on technical passing, combination play and things like that.”
“I feel like I fit in really well at Solihull, I don’t think I struggled to keep up or looked out of place at all.” He added.
We asked Kyle if any decision has been made after his two nights with Solihull, he told us: “I was invited to go back again the following week for a further two sessions with a possibility to go back again after the Christmas break for a further six-week trial.”
Kyle has sacrificed so much in order to try his luck at turning pro, we asked him for any advice for player in a similar position, he said: “My advice for players who are thinking of schooling in the UK through UK Football Schools is to just do it. You can’t live with regrets.”
“The school that I have been placed into is great for football and I feel I have improved a lot. If you want to make it as a pro you have to make sacrifices.”
“My advice for players who are thinking of attending a UK Football Trials event is to jump right into it. At the event I attended they had one out of five players scouted so you have a really great chance.”
