Kane Jackson - Aged 15 - Trial for Altrincham
15-year-old Kane Jackson has attended numerous UK Football Trials events and has been scouted by Altrincham during his latest run out.
When talking to Kane about his football history, he told us: “When I was around 11 I played for Chinley F.C. Then I moved to my current club Buxton Braves who I’ve been playing with for around three years.”
When asked why he chose to attend one of our events Kane explained: “When I got serious about football, I saw UK Football Trials on social media and asked my mum if I could attend.”
“I came to my first one and I was scouted by Burnley but unfortunately I lived too far out of their catchment area. I wasn’t just going to give up though, so I attended another three over a period of time.”
“The first one I was unfortunately not scouted, the second I was scouted by Guiesley but again I lived too far away.”
“Then on my third one, I was scouted by Altrincham.”
Once he was scouted, Kane talked us through what happened next: “After I found out that I had been scouted, I was emailed and invited to trial with Altrincham.”
“I’ve only attended one training session so far but the standard is much higher than I have experienced before.”
“The training is brilliant, it’s very hard; there’s a lot of running and fitness work but it’s really fun and the coaches are great.”
Pressed to see if he has received any feedback yet, Kane explained: “After my first session the coaches spoke to me and said that I played brilliantly in the match and that they though I had great footwork.”
“They wanted me to come back again the following week so that they could watch me some more and then hopefully they’ll come to a decision of if they want to keep me on or not.”
As someone who has faced many setbacks and has now gone from playing grassroots football to trialling with a semi-pro club, we asked Kane if he had any advice for players in a similar position. Here’s what he had to say:
“My advice to players who are in a similar position to myself would be to go to a UK Football Trials event. They always have loads of scouts from top clubs all in one place.”
“I would also say that if you are like me and not successful first time round, don’t give up, keep working hard and keep trying. If you give up you’ll never get anywhere.”
Everyone at UK Football Trials would like to congratulate Kane and also comment on how much we admire his attitude. Despite his setbacks Kane has proceeded to work hard and display the perfect mindset.
