Afan Gashi, 19, attended our event back in 2017 and was scouted by Farnborough who play in the Southern League Premier Division South.

Talking to Afan regarding his football history, he told us: “I was playing for a Sunday league team and thought that I could play at a higher level so I decided to attend your event.”

“I attended your trial in West London at QPR’s training ground back in 2017 and was scouted by Farnborough.”

After being scouted by Farnborough Afan signed for the club after completing his trial but not in his usual position.

He explained: “When I started with Farnborough my manager spoke with me and told me he would like to try me in a new position. I used to play as a striker but he tried me in quite a few different roles as a CDM, CAM and left-back.”

“Now I play as a centre midfielder. Its different but I used to drop back quite a lot as a striker, so playing in midfield is good for me because I have a decent shot and a good work rate.”

Having changed his position and continued to improve with the club, Afan was finally called up to feature for the first team! He said: “I finally made my first appearance for Farnborough after training with them a couple times a week for the past two months.”

“I found the jump into the first team great as I am quite a physical player and because of this I feel more comfortable playing with players older than me.”
