Following an impressive trial with us in Essex, Championship side Charlton Athletic scouted 12-year-old Bernardo De Quadros.

We caught up with Bernardo’s father Maikel to discuss his football history, why he chose to attend our event and what has happened since being scouted.

So Maikel, congratulations to Bernardo on a great trial performance with us, before getting into what has happened since being scouted, could you please give us some information regarding his football history?

“Since the age of seven Bernardo has been playing futsal and football. He’s participated in leagues and tournaments around London with his school and local club.”

“Barnet, Southampton and Charlton have scouted him. Currently, Bernardo is playing the London Youth Premier League with his local club and on trial with Charlton Academy”

Wow that’s an impressive background Maikel! With all of the opportunities he has had, what was your reasons for bringing him along to our event?

“Bernardo has demonstrated huge improvements when playing football. He has displayed his ability and technique with the help of Futsal. Coaches advised me that Bernardo had the potential to play at an academy, so I decided to take him to a trial with your company.”
 

It seems like that was a great decision on your part Maikel! Could you please talk us through what has happened since Bernardo was scouted at our event and what the level is like at Charlton?
 

“Bernardo is attending the Charlton trial and has received positive feedback. This is a very good opportunity, challenge and experience for Bernardo.  The coaches have a very high level of experience that helps players develop.”

That is incredible Maikel! As someone who had no professional academy experience to trialling with a Championship side, does Bernardo have any advice for players who may be in a similar position?

“My advice to get scouted is to be unique, try your best in every opportunity, always aim high and have fun doing what you love.”
