22-year-old central midfielder Kalvin Frimpong was recently scouted at our Essex event by Sutton United and was invited to trial for the u23’s team.

Speaking with Kalvin, he explained his football background: “My football started properly when I was playing with Tottenham’s development squad.”

“I was offered a scholarship with them but at 18 I felt like I wanted to go back to playing grassroots as I was offered the chance to play men’s football for Tilbury so I opted to go for that.”

“From Tilbury I’ve played for various teams until I had the chance to play in America but I didn’t really feel comfortable moving abroad. From there I attended your event which led to this opportunity with Sutton.”

When asked why he chose to attend our event, he told us: “I thought it was hard to be scouted at my age so opted to attend your open trials for the first time and I was lucky enough to be scouted.”

Moving on to his trials with Sutton, Kalvin informed us: “I attended training with Sutton u23’s, I didn’t get the chance to play in matches as there were cup games.”

“Unfortunately, as the club was quite far from where I lived it wasn’t really something I could pursue. Because of this, Marc the scout is currently trying to help me find another team. The coach also thinks I should be playing first team football rather than with the u23’s.”

“With Sutton the sessions mainly consisted of your standard drills, fitness, rondos, first touch, finishing, things like that. It was a good experience with Sutton, the people were great and I really enjoyed it.” He added.
