15-year-old centre-back Ted Johnson attended our Essex event back in December and was scouted by Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking with Ted he explained: “After your event I was invited to trial with Tottenham by the scout that was at your event.”
When asked what happened with Tottenham, Ted told us: “I played in matches for Spurs. The games were against an under 17’s academy, matches against their scholars. I went into their training centre and played matches with my trials.”
Commenting on his experiences with the Premier League club, Ted explained: “The experience of getting to that level and seeing first hand what its like; the speed of the game, how I played compared to them.”
“It was a great experience, I really enjoyed it and learned a lot from it for the next time.” He added.
Unfortunately after playing in several matches and trialling with the club, the club opted to go in the direction of another player so Ted was not chosen to sign.
He did not let this deter him from his goal of making it as a pro though. Ted chose to attend a further UK Football Trials event. He explained: “I chose to come back as I had been successful previously and it’s a great place to be seen. Even if you do not get scouted, it’s a great three hour training session.”
We asked Ted if he had any advice for players who are in a similar position to him, here’s what he had to say: “I would say just work your hardest. Leave everything out there on the pitch. Show the scouts everything you have.”
