16-year-old Kevin Kavanagh, who plays as a winger was scouted from our West London event back in December by Woking and Aldershot and subsequently went on trial with both.
Talking with Kevin, we asked for an insight into his footballing history as to which he told us: “I played at grassroots until I took my football more seriously at around age 13.”
When asked why he chose to attend our event, he told us: “I started looking online for places I could go in order to get scouted which is when I found you guys - you offered exactly what I was looking for.”
Kevin attended our five-day camp originally and explained: “I just found everything to be so genuine at the camp – the coaching, psychology, I really couldn’t have gone to a better place to further my football.”
He continued: “You guys have helped me massively because as you know, I unfortunately I wasn’t scouted at the camp.”
“However, you let me know what areas of my game I needed to improve on and I took this on board, went away and worked as hard as I could.”
“Because of this, when attended one of your trials in West London and I was lucky enough to be scouted by both Woking and Aldershot.”
Moving more onto the trials with both Aldershot and Woking, Kevin explained what they entailed: “I went on trial with Aldershot where I took part in a training session with their under 16’s academy team. They were a very good side and very welcoming.”
“We started with a warm up and then went into possession based drills where as an attacker I was working on things such as pressing the defence when off the ball.”
“We then finished by playing a match where we tried to put what we learned about pressing into play.”
“After this I attended the trial with Woking and we were put through our paces with drills that the academy team usually experience in a training session.”
He proceeded to tell us: “From there we played in an eight-a-side match and then for a debrief where we were told that we would receive an email regarding whether we will be invited back for a further six to eight week trial.”
However, an extended trial with Woking was not the case for Kevin as he explained: “I was shocked when I received my email as rather than being offered a further trial, I was offered a place as a scholar in their academy!”
“I was over the moon! Honestly, I couldn’t believe it.”
We would like to congratulate Kevin on his signing and wish him the best of luck going forward with the club.
