Following an impressive performance at our West London event, Daika Montague, who plays as a midfielder, was scouted by Dorking Wanderers.
Since the trial, Daika has gone on trial with Dorking and performed very well. We caught up with him to discuss his football history, why he chose to attend our event and what has happened since being scouted.
So Daika, congratulations on a great performance with us, before getting into what has happened since being scouted, could you please give us some information regarding your football history?
“I started playing at school from the age of six and joined a local team at age eight. I was invited to join the Arsenal Elite Development squad at age nine and joined Advanced Football Academy at age 12.”
That’s brilliant! Why did you choose to attend to our event?
“Football really is so competitive. There are so many matches being played throughout the country that you'd have to be really lucky for a scout to attend your game.”
Obviously you impressed at our event and were asked to trial with Dorking Wanderers. Could I ask how that has gone?
“It’s still early but Dorking have asked me to join their scholarship scheme.”
That’s fantastic Daika! As someone who has attended our event and has now gone in with a club, do you have any advice for players who are in the same position as you?
“UK Football Trials worked for me but it's not enough just to turn up. You've got to work just as hard off the ball as on it and get yourself noticed.”
Everyone here at UK Football Trials would like to congratulate Daika! We will keep in contact with him and provide updates on his current situation in the future.
