12-year-old Freddie Rothery was scouted on three occasions from our one-day trials and has recently trialled with Championship side Rotherham United after being spotted at our Sheffield event.

Speaking with Troy, Freddie’s father, he gave us an insight into Freddie’s football background: “Freddie has previously played for Colton Juniors, Rothwell Juniors, Wakefield Owls, Leeds United DC and currently play’s for UFCA in Leeds.

“On top of this, he has also trialled with Rotherham United under Scott Duncanson as a result of your event.” He added.

Troy went on to explain why he decided to bring Freddie along to our event, telling us: “We thought he was good enough to attend trials with yourself and this proved true with him being successful on all three occasions. He attracted interest from Rotherham United, Blackpool and also Guiseley AFC.”

Moving onto the trial with Rotherham, Troy told us: “The trial was brilliant but the pandemic caused a problem. Scott Duncanson said Freddie was very good and he was so close to signing him but COVID got in the way.”

“Scott has also told Freddie he would follow his progress and keep an eye on him as he can only trial once in a season.” He added.

Troy also provided some tips for players like Freddie who are looking to be scouted from our events: “Just be yourself and enjoy every moment, be happy, smile, don’t get down if things go wrong just keep going.”

Although Freddie was not signed by Rotherham, he didn’t let it get him down. Troy told us: “Freddie is also down in Sheffield with you guys on the 27th so hopefully he’ll get picked again and COVID won’t get in the way this time."
