12-year-old Robert Akoh was scouted and subsequently signed by Championship side Blackpool from one of our northern trials back in June 2021!

We spoke with Robert's father Michael to discuss his football background, why he chose to attend out event and what life is like at Blackpool.

Firstly Michael, could you please talk us through Robert's football history?

"He played for TikiTaka FC and Bolton Lad & Girls Club at grassroots level 2018-2021 until he was scouted by Blackpool."

Brilliant, why did you choose to bring him along to one of our events?

"We felt that your trial would help showcase his talent and get him noticed by clubs. This worked out as he was ultimately noticed and scouted by Blackpool."

As a player with no previous academy experience, how did playing at this new standard differ from what Robert was used to at grassroots level?

"He found training at the start of the trial faster and more detailed than the grassroots level, so he had to work extra to keep up with the pace."

Robert has adapted well and is enjoying life with Blackpool. UK Football Trials would like to wish Robert the best of luck with his side and hope he can continue to work hard impress.
