12-year-old Cameron Maltby was scouted from our Sheffield trial back in 2021 by Barnsley and offered to trial with the club.

We caught up with Cameron's Father Andrew to discuss his son's footballing background, why he chose to attend our event and what has happened since.

Firstly we asked Andrew for an insight into Cameron's football journey. He told us: "Cameron started his footballing career at grass roots like many do, in which he quickly got spotted by Nottingham Forest as well as Notts County."

"Cameron was offered an opportunity with Notts County and scored a hat-trick in his first appearance with the club. Off the back of this he was offered the chance to sign."

"He thrived with Notts County for four year, attending training three times a week as well as playing matches. During his first season he was also awarded Players Player Of The Year!"

Andrew continued: "The team thrived going unbeaten throughout the next season and beating higher-ranked academies." 

"This unfortunately came to an end when Notts County lost their Football League status. This ultimately had a knock on effect." 

"Due to this, Cameron received an offer to go back to Nottingham Forest for an eight week trial. He worked hard and did well, but unfortunately he was deemed too small." 

Because of these set backs, Andrew and Cameron opted to attend our event in hopes of being noticed by clubs and given an opportunity. This ultimately paid off with Cameron being scouted by Championship side Barnsley and offered the chance to trial.

Commenting on the experience, Andrew told us: "Currently Cameron is enjoying his time at Barnsley and has played matches against such teams like Middlesborough and Nottingham Forest – with fixtures such as Bradford and others upcoming."
