Amazing news that 15-year-old Joshua Hassett has signed for Rotherham United! 

Joshua previously played for Stapleford Town from the age of 8, alternating between playing as a goalkeeper and in outfield positions such as centre defence and midfield. He said “When our team's goalkeeper left at the under-12 level, I decided to step up and play in goal. I really enjoyed it that season, and we finished second in the league.” In the recently concluded under-14 season, they won the double (league and cup) without being defeated, conceding only 5 goals in 9 matches. 

When asked why he felt he attended UK Football Trials Joshua said “I started training with a goalkeeper coach at my local football club, and after a few months, my coach Scott recognized my potential and suggested that I put myself out there. When I came across your event online, I thought it was a great opportunity and decided to participate. 

When speaking on his experience on trial for Rotherham Joshua said “The training was excellent, and I really enjoyed it. The goalkeeper coach was very nice, and the entire team was friendly. The training was fast paced, but I enjoyed pushing myself to the limit.” 

After receiving a call from Rotherham, inviting him for an 8-week trial, Joshua was extremely excited. After three weeks of training, as the season was coming to an end, Rotherham approached him and offered a contract to join their academy. Joshua said “It felt amazing, as all the hard work and dedication seemed to be paying off. My first experience representing Rotherham was at the New York Stadium during the last game of the season. It was indescribable - the best feeling and experience so far.” 

Joshua’s advice to other players would be “Believe in yourself, work hard, stay focused on your goals, and go for it. Be patient, kind, and willing to listen and learn. Dedicate yourself to your football.”
