Kian Eyers - Aged 16 – Trial @ Colchester United

Kian Eyers - Aged 16 – Trial @ Colchester United

16-year-old goalkeeper Kian Eyers started playing football at the young age of 5 as a striker. Kian played for his grassroots club as a striker and then decided to change position to become a goalkeeper at the age of 11. Currently completing a 2-year level 3 sports health and fitness national diploma at Charlton Athletic CT and competing in the U19 National league as well as playing in the Kent Youth League Premier U18, U23 and Reserves leagues.

Kian attended a 1-day trial event with us at UK Football Trials and was scouted by non-league club Fisher Athletic. After a successful trial period with the club Kian has been offered a first team place with the club for the new season 24/25. Congratulations to Kian for earning this opportunity which isn’t easy at such a young age.

Kian then attended one of our world renowned 5-day football camps where he impressed the scout from Colchester United.

Following the 5-day camp Colchester United’s head of recruitment got in touch and invited Kian into the academy for a weeklong trial.

The trial was from Monday to Friday with Wednesday off as a rest day.

Monday Kian completed strength and conditioning testing followed by a goalkeepers training session with the goalkeeper coaches.
Tuesday consisted of two sessions; goalkeeper training session followed by a training session with the current U18 team.
Thursday was team training in preparation for the last league game being held on Friday. The sessions were a technical session looking at team tactics.
Friday Kian was selected to attend the last league game which was away to Hull City. Here Kian wasn't expecting to get any game time, but he was pleasantly surprised to be asked to play the full 90 minutes with the score finishing with a 1-1 draw.

Kian is currently waiting to hear back in regard to selection for the academy.

We asked Kian what he felt he learnt from his trial with Colchester, and he mentioned that “He now had a better understanding of the process for trial selection, how professional football clubs operate and expectations on academy players. He has also learnt how supportive the clubs can be and he learnt that there is a higher standard and commitment expected from players.”

Finally, as always, we asked Kian what made him decide to attend UK Football Trials events and would he recommend others and he had this to say… The trials are always enjoyable, very well organised and professional. There is always a good level of professional and semi-professional scouts in attendance too which is the reason why I would and have recommended UK Football Trials to others.”
