Eddie Brenninkmeijer 14 year old: From Grassroots Talent to Woking FC Success
Eddie’s dedication to improving his skills led him to attend several UK Football Trials events, including a 5-day camp in April 2024. The camp provided Eddie with a fantastic opportunity to showcase his abilities in front of professional scouts. Throughout the week, Eddie diligently listened to the goalkeeper coaches, taking their feedback on board and implementing it into his game. “Throughout the camp week, I listened to the goalkeeper coach and took everything on board and implemented this into my game,” Eddie reflected. By the final trial day, Eddie was prepared and focused, knowing exactly what he needed to do to stand out.
His hard work paid off, as Eddie impressed scouts from Leyton Orient, Queens Park Rangers, and Woking FC. Shortly after, Woking FC contacted him, offering a set of trial sessions over a two-week period. Eddie worked tirelessly during the trials, surrounded by talented academy players, and learned valuable lessons about patience, resilience, and determination. “I learned lots of new things, such as patience, resilience, and determination, but most of all, it boosted my confidence,” Eddie shared. The experience taught him the value of teamwork as well. “I realized that the group dynamic is one of the most important parts of a good team, and communication is key to working well together.”
Following his successful trial, Eddie was offered a place at Woking FC, which he accepted with great excitement. As he prepares to start with the club during pre-season training, Eddie reflects on the competitive nature of the trials. “The level of players at the trial was higher than I expected! It was quite intimidating walking onto the pitch with them,” Eddie admitted. However, he embraced the challenge, understanding that confidence and bravery were key to performing well at this higher level.
Eddie’s journey with UK Football Trials began when his mother spotted an advertisement. After attending his first day trial and finding the experience both fun and challenging, Eddie decided he would continue returning until he was scouted. “My mum saw an ad for UKFT. We tried one of their day trials, and it was so good and so much fun that I wanted to come back until I was scouted, however long it might take me!” he said. His persistence paid off, and he highly recommends the UKFT experience to other players. “I would highly recommend UKFT. All the coaches are at the top of their game—they’re knowledgeable, nice, strict when they need to be, and very honest when you don’t deserve praise.”
Currently, Eddie is preparing for his first Academy match with Woking FC. The club has provided him with incredible support, and he is eager to start his new football journey. As Eddie embarks on this exciting chapter, UK Football Trials is proud to have played a part in his success. We congratulate to Eddie for his hard work, dedication, and achievements. It was a pleasure having him at the camp, not only because of his talent as a goalkeeper but also because of his courteous and respectful attitude towards staff, coaches, and fellow players.
We look forward to following Eddie’s progress and wish him all the best as he continues to grow and succeed in his football career!
