Mason's football journey began at the young age of 4, when he first started training with Rawmarsh St Josephs. Over the next 10 years, he consistently honed his skills as a goalkeeper, playing in numerous tournaments and even stepping up to play with older age groups when needed. His hard work and perseverance paid off when he was selected to play for Rotherham School Boys during the 2022/23 season, and he has been chosen again for their first team this season. 

Mason's determination to be noticed by scouts led him to attend a UK Football Trials event, where his impressive performance caught the attention of four clubs: Birmingham City, Morecambe, Rotherham, and Grimsby. "The four clubs got in touch with my parents about what would happen next," Mason shared, excited about the opportunities ahead. 

Following this initial contact, Mason embarked on an 8-week trial that began with an induction evening. Reflecting on his experience, Mason said, "I learned to believe in myself, that I am good enough to play at that level, and to always push myself." The level of competition was exactly what he expected, with many talented players also vying for a spot on the team. 

Mason’s decision to attend UK Football Trials was driven by his desire to be noticed, especially as a goalkeeper—a position that sometimes gets overlooked by scouts. "I have worked so hard to get where I am now, and my confidence has gotten better," Mason explained, highlighting the value of the exposure he received at the trials. 

When asked if he would recommend UK Football Trials to other players, Mason’s response was a resounding yes. "It’s a great opportunity," he stated, recognizing the doors that UK Football Trials has opened for him. 

As Mason approaches the end of his trial period, he is eagerly awaiting feedback from the club. "I'm almost at the end of my trial, so expecting to hear something soon," he said, hopeful for the next step in his football journey.
