AJ’s football journey began in New York, where he developed his skills as both a left-winger and a striker. Playing for Manhattan Soccer Club, AJ quickly became known for his pace, tactical awareness, and ability to create chances on the field. However, he knew that if he wanted to push himself further and reach his full potential, he needed to challenge himself on a bigger stage. 

In the summer of 2024, AJ travelled to England to attend UK Football Trials, where he could test his skills alongside other talented players and in front of scouts from professional clubs. “I want to compete at the highest levels, and the UK trials offered that opportunity,” AJ said, reflecting on his decision to attend. He knew that the UK was home to some of the world’s best football academies, and he was eager to prove himself. 

The trials, however, did not come without their challenges. “I was a little jet-lagged and had a slow start to the trials,” AJ admitted. But after a few days of intense training, he found his rhythm. His perseverance and determination to improve didn’t go unnoticed. “I then went on to earn Most Improved Player,” AJ shared, a testament to how far he came in just a few days. The experience helped him gain more confidence and composure on the ball, skills that would serve him well as he continued his development. 

AJ’s hard work paid off when he was scouted by Oxford United, one of the clubs monitoring players at the trials. “Once UK Football Trials told me that I had been scouted, we established an open line of communication as my development continues,” AJ said. This was the start of an exciting opportunity, and he is now training with Oxford United, gaining valuable experience with a professional club. 

Reflecting on the trials, AJ noted that the level of ability among the players was diverse. “There was a wide range of skill levels, and everyone seemed to improve,” he explained. The competitive environment, coupled with the excellent coaching, helped all players push themselves and develop new skills. For AJ, the trials provided an invaluable opportunity to grow and improve as a player. 

When asked if he would recommend UK Football Trials to other aspiring footballers, AJ didn’t hesitate. “Yes, I would recommend it,” he said. “The training was excellent, and the exposure to a wide range of options for further development was really helpful.” For AJ, the trials opened doors he had only dreamed of, and the opportunity to train with Oxford United is a significant milestone in his football journey. 

Looking ahead, AJ is excited about the next steps. “I’m looking forward to training with the club during my time back in England,” he said, eager to continue his development with Oxford United. At the same time, AJ is also exploring university options in the U.S., weighing up his future both academically and athletically.
