Ashton’s determination paid off when he attended a UK Football Trials event. The trial was well-organised, with scouts from various clubs in attendance, and Ashton knew he had to make the most of this opportunity. His performance caught the attention of four professional clubs, all of which extended him invitations for trials. After careful consideration and following a series of trials, Ashton ultimately received an offer from Rotherham United. The club provided an initial six-week trial, which allowed him to demonstrate his potential and dedication further. Following the trial period, Rotherham United was impressed by Ashton’s skill and commitment, and they offered him a two-year contract!

The trials at Rotherham were both challenging and rewarding, pushing Ashton to bring his best to every session. He found the level of organisation and professionalism at Rotherham to be exceptional, with a supportive environment that encouraged growth and development. Reflecting on his experience, Ashton feels a sense of pride in being part of a club that values his contributions and is excited about his future with Rotherham United. 

Ashton learned several valuable lessons from his journey, particularly from his experiences at UK Football Trials. When Oldham’s academy closed, he feared that his opportunities might be limited, but UK Football Trials renewed his hope and provided him with a clear pathway. “UK Football Trials showed me how much opportunity was still out there and kept the dream alive,” he shares, grateful for the platform that allowed him to connect with scouts and showcase his abilities. 

For Ashton, the level of skill among players at UK Football Trials was as high as he expected, with a mix of abilities that challenged him to bring his best to the field. He saw UK Football Trials as an excellent opportunity due to its strong success stories and organised structure, and he recommends it to other players who are serious about advancing in football. “It’s a professional setup and genuinely offers real opportunities to get picked up by a pro club,” he says. 

Ashton is now focused on working hard, dedicating himself to his training, and making the most of his time with Rotherham United. His goal is to continue progressing and, one day, make it as a professional. His journey is a testament to his resilience and serves as an inspiring example of what can be achieved with hard work and the right opportunities.
