Finlay has been with Dorking Wanderers FC Elite since he was 10 years old and has also represented Woking Schools District, showcasing his talent and passion for football. His commitment to improving his game led him to attend a UK Football Trials event, where his abilities quickly caught the attention of scouts. 

The day after receiving an email from UK Football Trials, Finlay was contacted by a scout—a swift response that underscored the potential they saw in him. Reflecting on the experience, Finlay shared, “It was very quick. I was contacted by the scout the day after the email from UK Football Trials.” 

The following week, Finlay began trialling with Fulham, and 11 weeks later, he is still training with the club, a testament to his skill and determination. “The pace is fast and the play is intense, but you just need to relax on the ball and enjoy the experience,” Finlay noted, highlighting what he has learned during his trial period. 

Initially, Finlay thought that the level of players at the trial would surpass his own, but he quickly realized that he was more than capable of holding his own. “I thought everyone would be better than me, but I quickly realized that was not the case,” he said, reflecting on the confidence boost the experience gave him. 

The decision to attend UK Football Trials was influenced by Finlay’s father, who believed it would be a great showcase and an opportunity to receive top-class training. Finlay has since become an advocate for the trials, recommending them to other aspiring footballers. “Yes, definitely give it a go, but beware that the standard is high, so give it your best,” Finlay advised, emphasising the level of competition and the importance of putting in maximum effort. 

As Finlay continues his trial with Fulham, he remains focused and optimistic. “I am still on trial. I’ve trained up a year for five of the weeks I’ve been on trial, so things seem to be going well,” he shared, expressing his excitement about the progress he’s made and the opportunities ahead.
