Ben’s football journey has been diverse and competitive, including district football, Saturday matches in the MJPL, and Sunday football in the Under-12s Premier League. These experiences have shaped him into a confident and well-rounded player, ready to take on challenges at a higher level. Reflecting on his trial journey, Ben shared, “I’ve always loved the game and wanted to take the next step. UK Football Trials gave me the chance to showcase my skills and see where I stood against other talented players.” 

After attending UK Football Trials, Ben was scouted by Burton Albion. The news was a turning point in his young career. “When I found out I’d been scouted, I was so excited,” he recalled. “It started with a two-week trial, and now it’s been extended to an eight-week trial. Every session feels like an opportunity to improve and show what I can do.” 

Ben’s experience during the trial has been nothing short of eye-opening. “I’ve been included in training sessions, played in games against other academy teams, and even taken part in tournaments,” he explained. “It’s been a fantastic experience. The level of professionalism and the focus on development have been incredible.” 

Throughout the process, Ben has learned valuable lessons that extend beyond the pitch. “The trial has taught me so much,” he said. “I’ve improved my speed, accuracy, one-touch play, communication, and confidence. These are things I’ll carry with me in every game I play.” 

When asked about the level of competition, Ben acknowledged the high standard but remained confident. “The players at the trial were really good, but I still felt like I could fit in,” he said. “It was motivating to see the level of skill and push myself to match it.” 

Ben’s decision to attend UK Football Trials stemmed from his desire to grow as a player, regardless of the outcome. “I wanted to train with professional coaches and develop my skills,” he said. “Even if nothing came of it, I knew it would be a great experience. But getting scouted was the icing on the cake.” 

He enthusiastically recommends UK Football Trials to other young players. “It was such a fun day!” he said. “You learn so much, and the opportunity to play in front of scouts is something you don’t get every day.” 

Now halfway through his trial at Burton Albion, Ben is enjoying the experience and looking forward to what’s next. “I’m four weeks in, and it’s been amazing,” he said. “The coaches and players have been so welcoming, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be here. I’m focused on giving my best and seeing where this journey takes me.” 

Ben’s story highlights the value of persistence, versatility, and seizing every opportunity—a true inspiration for aspiring footballers. 

UPDATE 10/01/25: 

As a result of the trial day at Tamworth FC Ben was invited to a 2-week training trial with Burton Albion under 12’s. This was an opportunity for Ben to train with the current academy players and gave the coaches the opportunity to assess Ben’s footballing abilities close up.  

The invite proved successful as he was subsequently offered a formal 8-week youth development trial which enabled him to play in matches for Burton.  

Within that time Ben enjoyed fantastic experiences including training sessions and matches at St George’s Park and trips to Category 1 academy’s such as Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.  

After 5 weeks of the trial Ben attended a player review where he was invited to join Burton on a full-time basis and therefore sign to their academy.  

Ben is grateful to UK Football Trials for giving him a gateway into professional youth football and is excited at the prospect of developing his game within the Burton Academy.
