Thirteen-year-old goalkeeper Cohen Goddon’s football journey is a remarkable testament to his determination and rapid development. Unlike many players who start their footballing paths as toddlers, Cohen was a latecomer to the game, only beginning his first season at the Under-11 level. Yet, in just a few short years, his progress has been nothing short of exceptional. Now competing in both the Kent Youth League (KYL) and Junior Premier League (JPL), Cohen has quickly established himself as a standout goalkeeper. 

“I feel like I’ve excelled quickly because I’m a quick learner,” Cohen shared. “I’m always willing to listen and take on any advice that’s given to me. That’s what’s helped me improve so much in such a short time.” His varied training sessions have allowed him to develop a well-rounded skillset as a goalkeeper, and his natural determination has been key to his success. 

Cohen is already making waves in his football career. One of his proudest achievements to date came in the Kent Schools District Cup final, where he was named Man of the Match. His stellar performance included saving two penalties, securing the victory for his school team. Moments like these reflect not only Cohen’s ability but also his composure and confidence in high-pressure situations. 

When Cohen attended a UK Football Trials event, he approached it as an opportunity to take the next step in his football journey. “I’m really enjoying my football, and I felt ready to progress into academy football,” Cohen explained. “The chance to play in front of scouts who could help me take that step was too good to pass up.” 

At the trial, Cohen shone brightly, showcasing his abilities during the 1v1 drills and training game. “Making some great saves in the drills was definitely a highlight,” he said. “In the training game, I got to show off my sweeper-keeper skills, my calmness under pressure, and my confidence with the ball at my feet. It was also amazing to hear the Chelsea scout speak to me—it gave me a real boost.” 

Cohen’s natural vocal leadership and composure stood out, earning him attention from scouts representing Chelsea and Arsenal. Both clubs were impressed and have since requested his fixture list, indicating their desire to watch him further in matches. “Hearing that I’d been scouted by both clubs was unbelievable,” Cohen said. “I actually screamed when I found out—it’s such an exciting opportunity! But I’m trying to stay level-headed and focused on continuing to work hard.” 

Reflecting on the UK Football Trials experience, Cohen highlighted the value of the event beyond just the opportunity to be scouted. “It was great to learn about what scouts are looking for and to play in such a competitive environment,” he explained. “The level of competition pushed me to perform at my best, and the feedback from the coaches was really useful.” 

Cohen encourages other players to attend UK Football Trials, not only for the chance to be scouted but also for the experience itself. “The event was so well-organised, and it really gives you a platform to show what you can do,” he said. “It’s challenging, but that’s what helps you grow.” 

Now, Cohen is eagerly awaiting further developments from Chelsea and Arsenal. With his talent, work ethic, and passion for the game, he is well on his way to achieving his dream of becoming a professional goalkeeper.
