At just 11 years old, Daniel Leejo George, fondly known as DLG, has already made waves in the football world. Having played grassroots football in Australia since he was eight, his journey took a significant turn when his family relocated to the UK. Keen to showcase his talent, Daniel attended UK Football Trials, and his performance didn’t go unnoticed. 

“When I was told I’d been scouted, it was an incredible feeling,” Daniel shared. “Charlton, Oxford, and Colchester invited me for eight-week trials to compete for a spot in their academies. It’s an amazing opportunity to take my game to the next level.” 

Daniel’s trials involved various clubs and provided a comprehensive insight into the demands of academy football. “It was exciting to train and play alongside other talented players,” he said. “It really tested my abilities and gave me a sense of what’s expected at this level.” 

The experience taught Daniel valuable lessons about football and personal growth. “It’s such a great platform to showcase your skills,” he explained. “I realised how much I needed to push myself to compete with some of the best young players in the country.” 

The level of play met Daniel’s expectations. “The standard was very high,” he admitted. “But I felt prepared, and it was motivating to see how much I could learn from the other players.” 

Daniel’s decision to attend UK Football Trials was driven by the relocation to the UK and a desire to make an impression on local clubs. “I knew this was the right step for me,” he said. “It’s a brilliant opportunity for any young player looking to get noticed by scouts and clubs.” 

When asked if he would recommend UK Football Trials to others, Daniel was quick to respond. “Absolutely,” he said. “It’s a fantastic platform, whether you’re looking to get scouted or just want to improve your game. The exposure to scouts is something you don’t often get in grassroots football.” 

Now partway through his Charlton academy trial, Daniel is embracing the opportunity and focusing on giving his best. “Being included in Charlton’s trial list is a big deal for me,” he said. “I’m taking it one step at a time, working hard, and making the most of every session.”
