Connor Salmon – 9 year old Scouted by QPR
Connor’s football career began with his local team, where he initially played outfield. “He started enjoying playing in goal when no one else wanted to,” his family recalls. That decision proved pivotal, as Connor quickly began making a name for himself with standout performances in tournaments and matches. His abilities didn’t go unnoticed; over the years, Connor was asked to play for various teams, including Fulham, where he gained valuable experience travelling the county and competing at a high level.

More recently, Connor joined JDFS as his primary Saturday team while also playing up a year for Sutton United. “Playing up an age group has really helped Connor develop his skills and confidence,” his family shared.

Connor’s journey took a significant turn when he attended UK Football Trials. His performance caught the attention of QPR scouts, who wasted no time reaching out via email to invite him to trial at their development centre. For Connor, this marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

The trial experience at QPR was both challenging and rewarding. “On his first day, he was thrown straight into a game, which really tested him,” his parents explained. Over the following weeks, Connor was coached on all aspects of goalkeeping, allowing him to showcase and refine his skills. Despite being one of the youngest players, he embraced the opportunity to train alongside older boys. “They really put him through his paces, and he loved every minute of it,” they added.

Connor credits UK Football Trials with providing him invaluable learning opportunities. “The goalkeeper coaching session at the start was amazing,” he said. Training alongside older, more experienced players pushed him to elevate his game. “It was a great experience, and I learned so much,” Connor shared.

Reflecting on the trial, Connor’s parents highlighted the quality of coaching and the overall experience as standout moments. “The level of coaching was exceptional, and it was fantastic to see Connor thriving in such a professional environment,” they noted.

The decision to attend UK Football Trials was influenced by its reputation for high-level coaching and scout exposure. “We’d heard great things about their sessions, and they didn’t disappoint,” Connor’s family said.

When asked if they’d recommend UK Football Trials to other families, Connor’s parents were enthusiastic. “Very much so. Even if your child doesn’t get scouted, the advice and feedback you receive are incredible. It really helps your child improve,” they said. In Connor’s case, the feedback sheet has been a valuable tool for his ongoing development. “He’s taken it back to his coach, and they’re working on specific areas for improvement,” they added.

As for what’s next, Connor is eagerly awaiting further sessions at QPR’s development centre. “We’re excited about the opportunities ahead and are proud of how far he’s come,” his parents shared.

Connor’s journey is a testament to his resilience, passion, and willingness to embrace challenges. With QPR’s interest and a solid foundation built through UK Football Trials, the future looks bright for this young goalkeeper.
