Eli Ososipe – 11 year old Scouted by Chelsea and Arsenal

At just 11 years old, Eli Ososipe is living proof that passion, determination, and a little bit of serendipity can kickstart a promising football journey. Eli’s football story began in a humble yet familiar way: playing during school breaks and weekends with friends and family. “I’ve always loved football,” Eli shared. “It was something I just enjoyed doing whenever I had the chance.”
However, Eli’s life changed when he was spotted playing in the park by a local football coach. “He asked me to come to a goalkeeper training session at a local school,” Eli explained. “I went that same week, and during my first session, I was picked up by my current coach from Cray Wanderers. That’s how it all started.”
Despite only playing in a team for two years, Eli has quickly adapted to the demands of being a goalkeeper. His natural talent, combined with his willingness to learn, has helped him excel in his role. When his mum suggested attending a UK Football Trials event, Eli saw it as an opportunity to test himself against other players and receive valuable feedback.
“I went to see what other goalkeepers my age could do and how much I still needed to learn,” Eli said. “It was my first ever trial, and I didn’t expect to be scouted at all. I was nervous, and there were so many people watching. I wasn’t at my best, so I treated it as a learning experience.”
To his surprise, Eli’s performance caught the attention of scouts from Chelsea and Arsenal. “When we got the email, I couldn’t believe it,” Eli recalled, his excitement evident. “My mum told me that both clubs had requested my details and would be in touch. I’m a huge Chelsea fan, so hearing that was a dream come true. My biggest goal is to play for them one day.”
Eli’s trials with Chelsea are set to begin soon, and he’s eagerly preparing for the challenge. Reflecting on his UK Football Trials experience, Eli highlighted the valuable lessons he learned. “At the start of the trial, we had 45 minutes of training with a professional goalkeeping coach,” he shared. “He showed us skills and methods for catching the ball effectively and reacting in different scenarios. It was a great learning experience.”
Eli also appreciated the chance to observe older goalkeepers. “It gave me a sense of the competition out there,” he said. “I’m confident in my league, but the trial was a good way to see if my skills are good enough for a higher level.”
One of Eli’s favourite moments during the trial was playing in a match. “I love being under pressure in games,” he said. “Challenging the attackers and helping my team win is what I enjoy most.”
Eli wholeheartedly recommends UK Football Trials to other players. “It’s well-organised, and you meet so many coaches and players from different places,” he said. “It’s a great way to compare yourself to others and understand what you need to work on if you want to progress.”
Now, Eli is focusing on his upcoming trials and remains grounded despite the excitement. “I know there’s still a lot to learn, but I’m ready to show what I can do,” he said. “Fingers crossed, I can make a good impression.”
With his determination, humility, and enthusiasm, Eli’s future in football looks bright.
