Jacob Onwe 8 Year Old - Trial with Queen Park Rangers

At just 9 years old, Jacob is already making waves in the football world, demonstrating his skill and passion for the game as both a winger and midfielder. His story is one of determination, talent, and seizing opportunities to progress in his football journey.
Jacob’s love for football began at the age of 6 or 7. It wasn’t long before his abilities started to shine, leading to recognition from some of the biggest names in football. Among his early achievements was being scouted by Chelsea, which earned him the chance to trial at their world-class Cobham facility. While Chelsea continues to monitor his progress, Jacob has been busy developing his game with Norwich City’s Regional Development Program. As part of their U9s Advanced Development Team, he’s been honing his skills, gaining experience, and thriving in a structured, competitive environment.
Despite his promising background, Jacob recognised that grassroots football alone wasn’t enough to provide the opportunities he needed to take his game to the next level. That’s when he turned to UK Football Trials, a platform renowned for connecting young players with scouts from professional and semi-professional academies.
The decision to attend UK Football Trials proved to be a pivotal moment for Jacob. During the event, he impressed with his ability to adapt to different playing styles, perform confidently under pressure, and stand out while maintaining a strong sense of teamwork. Jacob’s standout performance didn’t go unnoticed—he was scouted by Queens Park Rangers and promptly contacted for a trial.
Reflecting on his experience, Jacob shares how the UK Football Trials environment helped him grow as a player. “I learned the importance of staying confident under pressure, especially knowing you’re being watched by so many scouts,” he explains. “I also learned to adapt quickly to different playing styles and focus on showcasing my strengths while working as part of a team.”
The feedback process at UK Football Trials was another highlight for Jacob. After the event, he received detailed feedback sheets and emails, outlining areas for improvement and offering guidance to help him elevate his game. This constructive feedback has been invaluable in shaping his approach to training and matches.
Jacob’s trial with QPR is now underway, scheduled to last between four and six weeks. He remains optimistic and determined to make the most of the opportunity, drawing confidence from his performance during the trial games. One of his best moments came when a scout approached him directly to ask about his age, positions, and other details. “Winning 1v1 and 2v1 situations during the trial was a big confidence boost,” Jacob recalls.
When asked if he would recommend UK Football Trials, Jacob’s answer is a resounding yes. “It’s a great platform to be seen by scouts from a range of professional and semi-professional academies,” he says. “The environment is competitive yet supportive, giving players the opportunity to showcase their talents and receive valuable feedback.”
As Jacob continues his trial with QPR, he remains hopeful for a positive outcome, knowing that his hard work and dedication have set him on the path to success.
