FEB 2025 TRIAL: Alex Andi - 11 Year Old Scouted by Chelsea

Football is more than just a sport for Alex Andi—it’s his life. From the moment he could kick a ball, he was immersed in the game, dedicating himself to improving every aspect of his play. His ability to excel in multiple positions, from goalkeeper to forward, sets him apart, and his performances have not gone unnoticed. Recently, his talent caught the attention of one of the biggest clubs in the world—Chelsea FC.
Alex’s football journey began at an early age, he joined NPL Youth, where he further honed his skills. His natural talent in goalkeeping was discovered by chance when he stepped in to cover for another goalkeeper. Not only did he impress, but he went on to win ‘Goalkeeper of the Tournament’ twice, conceding just one goal and leading his team to victory.
Since September 2024, Alex has been the first-choice goalkeeper for his Saturday team while also playing various attacking roles for his Sunday side. His incredible shot-stopping ability, agility, and distribution skills have earned him the nickname ‘The Cat.’ In one remarkable stretch, he saved four penalties in four matches, further proving his ability to thrive under pressure.
Alex’s versatility and work ethic have also been recognised beyond grassroots football. He trains a year up with Brentford Advanced U12 as a forward, where he recently scored against Wycombe Wanderers. Additionally, he was selected to train at Real Madrid’s academy in 2024 and will return in 2025, an experience that has helped refine his technical ability and decision-making.
When Alex attended UK Football Trials, he didn’t even realise it was a trial at first. “My mum said it was just a fun kick-around with some older boys,” he recalls. “I was excited to get some extra practice in goal.” Little did he know that his performance would lead to Chelsea FC scouting him for their academy.
After being identified, Chelsea invited Alex to train with their academy as both a goalkeeper and forward. “Mum told me that I’d get the chance to train there soon. She said it would be hard work but also lots of fun,” Alex says. “I’m really excited to meet new teammates who love football as much as I do.”
Reflecting on his UK Football Trials experience, Alex highlights the intensity and high level of competition. “I learned that I can make big saves against much older boys, and the training drills were really good,” he says. “It was a great challenge and helped me improve.”
Would he recommend UK Football Trials to other young players? Absolutely. “It’s a really fun experience, and you can come back every year,” he says. “You get to play against really good players, even better than some Sunday league teams.”
As he prepares for his upcoming training sessions with Chelsea, Alex remains dedicated to his football journey. With strong support from his family, a relentless drive to improve, and a deep passion for the game, he is more than ready for the challenge ahead. Whether as a goalkeeper or an outfield player, Alex Andi is a name to watch for the future.
