Avry Gordon – 13 Years Old – Scouted by Charlton Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur, QPR, West Ham, Norwich, Luton Town & Gillingham

At just 13 years old, Avry Gordon is already proving himself as a prolific striker, catching the attention of multiple professional clubs. With a natural eye for goal and an impressive scoring record, Avry’s journey has been filled with challenges, resilience, and determination.

From the moment he could walk, football has been a part of Avry’s life. “I’ve had a passion for the game since I was born,” he says. His ability was clear from an early age, and at just four years old, he started playing in an under-6s team—competing two years above his age group for two seasons. By the time he was eight, his talent was recognised by Brighton & Hove Albion, who scouted him. However, just days after his first session, Avry suffered a broken ankle. It was a huge setback, and after recovering, he made the difficult decision not to return to Brighton but instead continue developing his game in grassroots football.

Not long after, the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted football, forcing Avry to put his dreams on hold. But nothing could stop his determination. Two years ago, he faced another major challenge—breaking both his leg and ankle while playing at school. The injury sidelined him for three months, but once recovered, he joined a new team to rebuild his confidence. It didn’t take long for him to make an impact. In just half a season, he scored 40 goals for his new team and an additional 30 for his Saturday side. His outstanding performances led to interest from Crystal Palace, where he attended two showcase games. While he didn’t progress further with Palace, it only fuelled his desire to push himself even more.

This season, Avry has taken his game to another level. Playing for a team based in Crawley on Sundays, he has already scored around 50 goals, with another 20 for his other teams. It was clear that professional clubs would come knocking again, and that’s exactly what happened when he attended UK Football Trials.

“When UK Football Trials told me I had been scouted, it was an amazing feeling,” Avry recalls. The response was overwhelming—he received emails from multiple clubs, all eager to see more of his ability. Tottenham invited him for a showcase game, where he impressed enough to be asked back for a six-week pre-trial. QPR put him forward for another showcase, while West Ham invited him to their advanced centre. Meanwhile, Luton and Charlton Athletic both offered him full academy trials, with Charlton giving him an eight-week opportunity to prove himself.

Right now, Avry is in the middle of his eight-week trial with Charlton Athletic, taking the opportunity to train in a professional academy environment. The experience has been invaluable, and he credits UK Football Trials for helping him learn how to handle pressure. “I learned to be calm and composed under the eyes of the scouts and coaches. The key is to be yourself, stay humble, and play with confidence,” he says.

His best moment from the trial? “When the scouts approached me and started asking questions. It made me realise I had really caught their attention.”

Avry’s journey to UK Football Trials was encouraged by his mum, who saw it as a great opportunity to meet new people and play more football. It turned out to be a life-changing decision. “I’d 100% recommend UK Football Trials to any player looking to be seen and showcase their talent. It’s a fantastic opportunity.”

With his trial at Charlton Athletic ongoing, Avry remains focused on making the most of the opportunity. “The trial is still going on for eight weeks, so I’m working hard and giving my best every session,” he says.

His journey so far has been one of resilience, bouncing back from injuries and setbacks to keep pushing forward. With his goal-scoring ability and determination, Avry Gordon is certainly a name to watch in the years to come.
