Milan McNicholas (Age 8) – Scouted by Blackburn Rovers and Morecambe

Despite his age, Milan already has an impressive playing background. He has been competing in the Manchester Youth Super League (MYSL), representing a Premier League grassroots team at under-8 level, while also challenging himself by playing a year up in an under-9 side. This exposure to different levels of the game has helped Milan develop not just technical skills, but also maturity on the pitch.
In addition to grassroots football, Milan has gained valuable experience by attending pre-academy sessions with both Stoke City and Stockport County, giving him insight into the standards expected at the next level. It was clear from early on that he had a natural flair for the game, and he continues to refine this through regular competitive play and structured training.
Milan’s journey with UK Football Trials began after his family came across glowing reviews on social media. Inspired by the opportunities it might open up, they decided to enrol him.
“The reviews were very positive,” said his parent. “It seemed like a professionally run environment where Milan could test himself and see what level he was at.”
The trial day did not disappoint. Milan particularly enjoyed meeting other young, talented players and getting the chance to showcase his skills in a competitive match setting.
“I enjoyed meeting the other players and getting to demonstrate my skills in the game,” Milan said.
More importantly, the trial gave him a valuable glimpse into what is expected at a professional level. It reinforced the importance of making an impact during short windows of opportunity — something Milan took on board straight away.
“I learned that you need to showcase your strengths on the day and it gave me a clear idea of what professional clubs are looking for.”
Soon after the event, UK Football Trials contacted Milan’s family to let them know that both Blackburn and Morecambe had expressed interest. Blackburn, in particular, took swift action, reaching out to observe Milan in two live matches with his local teams.
“The scout came to the first game and introduced himself after the match. He told us he’d come again to watch Milan play for another team where he plays a slightly different role,” his parent explained.
The second game is scheduled for 22nd April, and the family are eagerly awaiting the outcome. Should all go well, it may lead to a formal trial opportunity with Blackburn Rovers — a fantastic step forward for a young player at this stage of his development.
Until then, Milan remains focused. His eyes are fixed on the pitch, taking every game as another opportunity to improve. The feedback process is still ongoing, but the early signs are highly promising.
When asked if they would recommend UK Football Trials to others, Milan’s family were enthusiastic:
“Yes – it was well organised, communication was excellent, and they delivered exactly what they promised. It’s a genuine opportunity to be seen by professional clubs.”
With talent, support, and a grounded approach to development, Milan McNicholas is certainly one to watch in the coming years.
